PENGARUH PEMBERIAN EKSTRAK AIR DAUN SIRIH (Piper betle L.) DALAM AIR MINUM TERHADAP PERSENTASE LEMAK ABDOMINAL BROILER

The ban on using antibiotics as Antibiotic Growth Promoters (AGP) has encouraged
researchers to find safer natural alternatives as feed additives. One of the potential options is
using water extract of betel leaf (Piper betle L.). This study aimed to determine the effect of
betel leaf water extract in drinking water on the abdominal fat percentage of broiler chickens.The research was conducted at Sesetan Farm, Faculty of Animal Science, Udayana University,
for five weeks using 80 Day Old Chick (DOC) broilers. The experiment used a Completely
Randomized Design (CRD) with four treatments and five replications. The treatments were P0
(without betel leaf extract), P1 (2% betel leaf water extract), P2 (4% betel leaf water extract),
and P3 (6% betel leaf water extract). The observed variables included the percentage of pad fat,
mesenteric fat, gizzard fat, and abdominal fat. The results showed that giving betel leaf water
extract up to 6% had no significant effect (P>0.05) on the percentages of pad fat, mesenteric fat,
gizzard fat, or abdominal fat in broilers. In conclusion, adding betel leaf water extract (Piper
betle L.) in drinking water at levels of 2%, 4%, and 6% did not affect the abdominal fat
percentage of broiler chickens.
ABSTRAK
Adanya pelarangan penggunaan antibiotic sebagai Antibiotic Growth Promotor (AGP),
mendorong untuk mencari alternatif feed additive alami yang lebih aman, salah satunya dengan
menggunakan ekstrak air daun sirih. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh
pemberian ekstrak air daun sirih dalam air minum terhadap persentase lemak abdominal broiler.
Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Farm Sesetan Fakultas Peternakan Universitas Udayana selama 5
minggu menggunakan 80 ekor Day Old Chick (DOC). Penelitian menggunakan Rancangan
Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan 4 perlakuan dan 5 ulangan, yaitu P0 (tanpa ekstrak air daun sirih
iventric), P1 (ekstrak air daun sirih 2%), P2 (ekstrak air daun sirih 4%), dan P3 (ekstrak air
daun sirih 6%). Variabel yang diamati meliputi persentase lemak bantalan, mesentrium,
ventrikulus dan lemak abdominal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pemberian ekstrak air daun
sirih hingga level 6% tidak berpengaruh nyata (P>0,05) terhadap persentase lemak bantalan,
mesentrium, ventrikulus dan lemak abdominal broiler. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini dapat
simpulkan bahwa pemberian ekstrak air daun sirih (Piper betle L.) dalam air minum pada level
2%, 4% dan 6% tidak mempengaruhi persentase lemak abdominal broiler.
