Silage is a feed material produced through fermentation technology to preserve and maintain its nutritional quality, and this study aims to evaluate the effect of the addition of different starters, namely Rhizopus oligosporus, EM-4, and lignocellulolytic bacteria, on the quality and chemical composition of elephant grass silage (Cenchrus purpureus (Schumach.) Morrone). This research was conducted at the animal Nutrition and Feed Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Udayana University. The research used a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of four treatments and five replications, resulting in 20 experimental units. The treatments used included P0 = 1000 g elephant grass + 100 g pollard + 25 mL molasses + 25 mL water, P1 = 1000 g elephant grass + 100 g pollard + 25 mL molasses + 25 g Rhizopus oligosporus, P2 = 1000 g elephant grass + 100 g pollard + 25 mL molasses + 25 mL EM-4, P3 = 1000 g elephant grass + 100 g pollard + 25 mL molasses + 25 mL lignocellulolytic bacteria. The analysis results showed that addition of starter significantly improved the quality of elephant grass silage. The use of starter, particulary lignocellulolytic bacteria, significantly reduced the crude fiber content and increased the organic matter and crude protein content compared to other treatments. Treatment P3 = 1000 g elephant grass + 100 g pollard + 25 mL molasses + 25 mL lignocellulolytic. Produced the best results, with the lowest crude fiber content and the highest crude protein and organic matter content. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the addition of lignocellulolytic bacteria can optimally improve the nutritional quality of elephant grass silage.
ABSTRAK
Silase merupakan bahan pakan yang diproduksi melalui teknologi fermentasi untuk diawetkan serta mempertahankan kualitas kimia yang terdapat di dalamnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji pengaruh penambahan starter yang berbeda, yaitu ragi tempe, EM-4 dan bakteri lignoselulolitik, terhadap kualitas dan komposisi kimia silase rumput gajah (Cenchrus purpureus (Schumach.) Morrone). Penelitian dilakukan di Laboratorium Nutrisi dan Makanan Ternak, Fakultas Peternakan, Universitas Udayana. Penelitian menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) yang terdiri dari empat perlakuan dan lima ulangan, sehingga menghasilkan 20 satuan percobaan. Perlakuan yang digunakan meliputi P0 (1000 g rumput gajah + 100 g pollard + 25 mL molasses + 25 mL air), P1 (1000 g rumput gajah + 100 g pollard + 25 mL molasses + 25 g ragi tempe), P2 (1000 g rumput gajah + 100 g molasses + 25 mL molasses + 25 mL EM-4), P3 (1000 g rumput gajah + 100 g pollard + 25 mL molasses + 25 mL bakteri lignoselulolitik). Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa penambahan starter secara signifikan meningkatkan kualitas silase rumput gajah. Penggunaan starter, terutama bakteri lignoselulolitik menurunkan kadar serat dan meningkatkan kadar bahan organik serta protein kasar secara nyata dan meningkatkan kadar bahan organik serta protein kasar secara nyata dibandingkan perlakuan lainnya. Perlakuan P3 (1000 g rumput gajah + 100 g pollard + 25 mL molasses + 25 mL bakteri ligonselulolitik) memberikan hasil terbaik, dengan kadar serat kasar terendah dan kadar protein kasar serta bahan organik tertinggi. Berdasarkan hasil ini, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penambahan bakteri lignoselulolitik mampu meningkatkan kualitas kimia silase rumpu gajah secara optimal.
