EVALUASI KINERJA DAN PENDUGAAN RESPON SELEKSI UKURAN TUBUH SAPI BALI BETINA DI KABUPATEN KARANGASEM

Selection is one of the efforts to improve the genetic quality of bali cows which can be
carried out through the evaluation of body measurements as a basis for determining selection
criteria. This study aimed to determine the body measurement performance and selection
response of bali cows based on the measured body dimensions. The research was conducted in
Kubu and Abang Districts, Karangasem Regency, Bali, using 71 bali cows grouped by age
according to SNI 7651-4:2023 into I0, I1, I2, and I3 groups. The variables observed were body length, withers height, and chest girth. Data were analyzed descriptively to obtain mean and
standard deviation, and selection response was calculated using the formula R = h² × i × Sd.
The results showed that the mean body length, withers height, and chest girth increased with
age, and the selection response of body length and withers height was higher than chest girth. It
can be concluded that selection based on body length and withers height is more effective in
improving the genetic quality of Bali cows in Karangasem Regency.
ABSTRAK
Seleksi merupakan salah satu upaya peningkatan mutu genetik sapi bali betina yang
dapat dilakukan melalui evaluasi ukuran tubuh sebagai dasar penentuan kriteria seleksi.
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kinerja ukuran tubuh dan respon seleksi sapi bali
betina berdasarkan ukuran tubuh yang diukur. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Kecamatan Kubu
dan Abang, Kabupaten Karangasem, Bali, menggunakan 71 ekor sapi bali betina yang
dikelompokkan berdasarkan umur menurut SNI 7651-4:2023 menjadi kelompok I0, I1, I2, dan
I3. Variabel yang diamati meliputi panjang badan, tinggi pundak, dan lingkar dada. Data
dianalisis secara deskriptif untuk memperoleh rataan dan simpangan baku, kemudian dihitung
respon seleksi menggunakan rumus R = h² × i × Sd. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa
rataan panjang badan, tinggi pundak, dan lingkar dada meningkat seiring bertambahnya umur,
dan respon seleksi panjang badan serta tinggi pundak lebih tinggi dibandingkan lingkar dada.
Dapat disimpulkan bahwa seleksi berdasarkan panjang badan dan tinggi pundak lebih efektif
untuk meningkatkan mutu genetik sapi bali betina di Kabupaten Karangasem.
